A Lifetime of Experience. A New Direction.

Compass Rose Works was born from a simple belief: the experiences we gather throughout life are meant to be used.

My name is Paul Cooper, and my path to becoming an author and software developer was anything but a straight line.

I began in emergency medical services as a teenager and went on to spend decades working as a paramedic, flight paramedic, registered nurse, critical-care nurse, healthcare manager, and leader. Along the way, I learned that some of the most valuable lessons in life come not from textbooks, but from experience—solving problems, adapting when plans change, learning from mistakes, and finding better ways to accomplish a goal.

Retirement didn’t end that process. It simply gave it a new direction.

Writing Eating from Life’s Buffet began as a way to preserve the stories, lessons, humor, tragedies, and unexpected blessings collected over a lifetime. Becoming an author, however, introduced an entirely new challenge: managing the business that surrounds a book.

That challenge led to the development of Author Business Manager—software originally created to solve my own need for a simple, organized way to manage books, inventory, events, sales, expenses, contacts, and outreach. What began as a personal solution gradually became something that could potentially help other authors navigate those same waters.

And from those experiences came Compass Rose Works.

The compass is intentional.

A compass doesn’t choose your destination. It doesn’t travel the journey for you. It simply helps you find your direction.

That’s what I want Compass Rose Works to do.

This site brings together books, software, practical resources, and creative ideas developed from experience and designed to help others turn ideas into something real.

The word Works has meaning too. This is a place where ideas are meant to become things—books, software, tools, resources, and solutions.

And, just as importantly, things that work.

My career taught me to solve problems. Nursing taught me to care about the people affected by those problems. Leadership taught me to improve processes rather than simply accept them. Writing taught me the power of sharing experience.

Compass Rose Works is where those lessons now come together.
